Constance Sprague was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Virginia. She attended St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland, and eventually graduated from George Mason University after years of detouring as a singer in The Mystery Band, a party band in the Washington, DC area.

During 10 years as a columnist and editor with The Fauquier Citizen, a weekly newspaper in Warrenton, Virginia, she earned numerous awards for her writing from the Virginia Press Association.

A recovering soccer mom and a maniacal gardener, she currently lives in Seattle, where the mountains soar, the coffee pours, and the rain reigns.
